How we handle your data

Last updated: December 2024

Tech-Econ is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect and how we use it.

What We Collect

We collect minimal, anonymous data to understand how the site is used:

  • Page views: Which pages are visited (no personal identifiers)
  • Search queries: What terms users search for (anonymous)
  • Country: General geographic location (country-level only)

We do not collect:

  • Names, email addresses, or personal information
  • IP addresses
  • Device fingerprints
  • Cross-site tracking data

Analytics

We use GoatCounter, a privacy-focused analytics service that:

  • Does not use cookies
  • Does not track users across sites
  • Does not collect personal data
  • Is GDPR-compliant by design

Our analytics dashboard is public: tech-econ.goatcounter.com

Do Not Track

We respect the Do Not Track (DNT) browser setting. If your browser has DNT enabled, our analytics will not track your visit.

Local Storage

The "My Collection" feature uses your browser's local storage to save your favorites and playlists. This data:

  • Never leaves your device
  • Is not sent to any server
  • Can be cleared through your browser settings

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

  • GitHub Pages: Website hosting
  • Cloudflare: CDN and worker functions
  • GoatCounter: Privacy-focused analytics
  • jsDelivr/unpkg: JavaScript library delivery

Each service has its own privacy policy. We chose these services for their strong privacy practices.

No Ads, No Tracking

Tech-Econ has no advertisements, no affiliate links, and no tracking pixels. The site is a free resource for the academic and data science community.
